Hawaii Keikis sing popular song

After our recent post with a photo of  hula dancing keikis at the Queen's Shops on the Kohala Coast, we came across this wonderful video by HawaiiKidsMusic.com

Watch the keikis on one of our beautiful Hawaii white sand beaches. The kids hula dance keiki kind and sing the popular song 'Pearly Shells'. We enjoyed it a lot and are sure you will so too.

Aloha, from the Kohala Coast

Merrie Monarch Hula Festival started

Aloha to all our Hawaii lovers,
When publishing the April 2012 Big Island Events, the biggest Hawaii event was without any doubt the 2012 Annual Merrie Monarch Hula Festival in Hilo. The hula festival started officially yesterday April 8th Easter Sunday with a Ho'olaule'a at the auditorium behind the Stadium with lots of music, food and fun. Be aware that this was just the opening of a week-long festival of cultural events including Hawaii's most prestigious hula competition.

The Merrie Monarch Festival announced changes in the statewide coverage of its hula competition. The Merrie Monarch Hula Festival was first televised in 1981 on KITV (channel 4). That's where Keoki and I would always watch it. The high definition TV broadcast event is now moving to KFVE (channel 5). The 2012 Merrie Monarch Festival TV show will be a perfect way to internationally promote Hawaiian culture. When you are a hula fan like us, you can follow the show live via Internet streaming when are in Hawaii or thousands of miles away. It's a program which touches your heart and your soul and wants everybody to come back to Hawaii.

For all our current Hawaii visitors, the Merrie Monarch Festival offers lots of free events displaying Hawaii cultures and traditions like the crafts fair which starts on Wednesday, with incredible fresh Hawaiian leis and unique Hawaiian crafts in the building adjacent to the Stadium. The Wednesday hula performance is very special because it is a FREE hula exhibition night at the Stadium which begins at 6:30 pm. For the following Hula performances, tickets are needed. Normally, tickets are sold out way in advance but this year I could not find out from the Merrie Monarch website whether there are still tickets available.

Wishing you a unique experience with the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival 2012 in Hilo, live at home or at the Hilo location. Your Merrie Monarch Hula festival comments are most welcome. We' d love to hear from all our hula lover friends. Mahalo and aloha, Pua Hawaii Vacation

Hawaii Hula Festival Videos

A Komo Mai everybody,
At Best Hawaii Vacation Blog, we are proud of sharing big Hawaii events which keep Hawaiian traditions and culture alive with all our friends who are in love with Hawaii. Hawaii vacation is not only about white sand beaches, as we all know, but also about the Hawaiian culture which we experience everywhere on the islands. Aloha spirit and hula are the biggest part.

In the past, we wrote many posts about the meaning of hula and hula festivals in Hawaii. The Merrie Monarch Hula Festival on Hawaii Big Island is coming up for its 48th anniversary this 2011 Easter. Good reason to get you in the hula festival mood with our Hawaii Hula Festival videos.

For those who have not heard about the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival, here is some basic information for Big Island visitors, who are in Hawaii and would like to visit Hilo for the Hula Festival this Easter. Merrie Monarch Festival is a non-profit organization that honors the legacy left by King David Kalakaua, who inspired the perpetuation of Hawaii traditions and culture, Hawaiian language and arts.

The week-long festival features an internationally acclaimed hula competition, a huge crafts fair, an amazing Hawaiian art show, a grand parade through Hilo town and last but not least, a three-day hula competition that has received worldwide recognition. This year's 2011 Merrie Monarch Festival takes place April 24-30, 2011.

In preparation of this Hawaii Hula Festival blog I perused many hula videos on youtube including some of the older Merrie Monarch Festivals. Enjoying all thess hula videos, the chants and songs, beautiful Hawaiian style costumes and the special sounds of Hawaiian music, I came across the following video by the Polynesian Cultural Center's about hula shows at Moanikeala Festival. I was so impressed by it that I decided to post it here.

Most impressive of this Hawaii hula festival video was for me that hula is a dance of all generations from the youngest keiki to the older generation. Please, enjoy this huge variety of hula dances.

We close our Hawaii Hula Festival post with a video from the 2008 Merrie Monarch Festival presenting Halau Hula Olana, which shows the grace, the love, the beauty and the commitment of the Hawaiian wahine in their hula performance.

Let us know what you think about these Hawaii hula videos and of course your experience with the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival. Mahalo and aloha, Pua

Share your love for Hawaii with your Friends

Dear Best Hawaii Vacation blog visitors,
After our recent visits to Kihei Maui 'Is Kihei a good place for a Maui Vacation?', we are ready to move on with more Hawaii blog posts enticing our visitors to plan their next Hawaii vacation, sooner or later. Actually, we'd recommend better sooner than later because Hawaii vacation rental hosts still make unbelievable special accommodation offers for fall months and so does Hawaiian Airline. Air fare rates + Hawaii vacation rental rates will go up for the busy holiday season 2009.

Let's get straight to our today's post 'Share your love for Hawaii with your friends'. I love to read Hawaii tweets from my Hawaiian friends. If I come across one which I feel is of special value for our Best Hawaii vacation blog visitors, I retweet it. My Hawaii tweet will be displayed on my blog side bar where all my recent Hawaii tweets show up with links to Twitter friends or Hawaii sites of interest.

One of my favorite Hawaiian sites is HawaiianRainbow.com I wrote about my friends in my post 'Hawaiian Music' and told our blog visitors how they can listen to Hawaiian music 24/7 for FREE. Just add this site to your favorites and whenever you are in the mood to get in the relaxed Hawaii mood, go visit Hawaiian Rainbow and click the link 'Listen to Hawaiian Music NOW'.

Close your eyes and get transported to the Hawaiian islands. Feel the warm Hawaiian ocean breeze and hum to your favorite Hawaiian songs. Best way of releasing stress through this special Hawaiian meditation! Not to forget to mention 'Keoki's Hawaii Easy Stretch Video', which also includes a guided relaxation to the sounds of gentle ocean waves!

Besides Hawaiian music, I love Hawaiian hula whether it's the lovely hula ladies of a hula halau like the ones on our Hawaii youtube video or the powerful warrior hula of the guys, hula is food for your soul and your spirit. So sit back and relax with this wonderful Hawaiian hula halau 'Hula Halau O Kamuela', Merrie Monarch 2009 Women Auana Winner - a treat for your ears, eyes and soul. Don't forget to share your love for Hawaii with your friends by telling them about the magic of Hawaiian music and Hawaiian hula. Aloha, Pua Hawaii Vacations

Hawaii Hula Festival

Our Monday post was definitely different but the spectacular humpback whale photo can still be considered as our 'Hawaii Photo of the Week'. Here is what we had prepared for yesterday but then we decided to come full circle with the whale topic. Hope those exciting whale stories made you book a whale watch for your Hawaii vacation, which is one of the best things to do in Hawaii. For those Hawaii visitors who love the hula and the hula dancers of Hawaii, our today's article might give them an incentive to plan a Big Island Spring vacation in order to visit one of the biggest Hawaii events, the Hula Festival in Hilo!

As the 45th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival (2008) hula competition in Hilo Hawaii is coming up - attracting thousands of visitors to Hilo each year - we decided to post another of Jennifer's beautiful photos of Hawaiian hula girls plus tell you a little bit more about the biggest hula festival in the world. This time it is scheduled for April 3-5, 2008, which is actually one week later than usual. Normally, the Hawaii hula festival takes place one week after Easter. This date shift for 2008 was done in order to accommodate another major event in Hilo.

Hawaii hula halauThe annual Merrie Monarch Hula Festival in Hilo, Big Island of Hawaii, is a week long festival of cultural events including Hawaii’s most prestigious hula competitions at Edith Kanaka’ole stadium with performances of ancient and modern hula by single dancers and groups (halaus).

The tickets for the Hilo Hula Festival are sold out out way ahead of the time. However, if you are on your Big Island vacation at this time, your might want to drive to Hilo - it's on your way to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park anyway - reserve a Hilo hotel and attend Wednesday's free hula exhibition night at the stadium that begins at 6:30pm. The 3-day festival includes Hawaiian art exhibits, craft fairs, demonstrations, performances, a parade, which is fun for the entire family

A great way to see what to expect at the Hawaii Hula Festival is a video or DVD from IslandHeritage My favorite one is the one from the 2003 Hula Festival, which one can buy at $9.99 (great price!). Sorry I did not watch the 2007 video, whose price is a bit on the high end but might come down after the 2008 Merrie Monarch Hula Festival.

Here is a short video clip with the perfect music by my favorite award winning Kumu Hula Sonny Ching's halau to get you in the mood and excitement of live hula performances at the festival. Turn up the volume of your speakers for best reception of Hawaii chants!

Enjoy your Hawaii vacation and the Hawaii Hula Festival 2008. Aloha Pua Hawaii Vacations

Hawaii Hula Dancers

It's Monday and our Hawaii photo is getting posted. It's a photo of Hawaiian hula dancers, which Jennifer selected for this Hawaii photo. Aren't we all mesmerized when watching a Hawaii hula performed by one of the graceful Hawaii hula dancers or hula halau (groups), whether you watch them at your Hawaii hotel or at a Hawaiian luau? Hula is a big part of Hawaii heritage and tradition. Hawaii visitors cannot resist the attraction of an ancient hula accompanied by Hawaiian music. The hula belongs to your Hawaii vacation like the palm trees and the white sand beaches. You might want to read more about 'Learn how to hula'.

Hawaii hula dancers in Waikiki at longest hula dancer lineHawaii photographer Jennifer Crites took the above photo of Hawaii hula dancers at Waikiki Beach, between Queen's Beach and the Hilton Hawaiian Village, at a very special event during the Aloha Festival in September last year. In 1996, hula dancers from Hawaii had set a new Guinness Book record for the 'Largest Hula Dance' with 3,500 dancers participating. Unfortunately, the record had dropped from the Guinness Book.

The hula dancer photo shows you the attempt to set up a new record for the longest hula dancers line. In celebration of the 55th Waikiki Ho'olaule'a, Aloha Festivals will be breaking its Guinness Book of World Records by lining up 5,500 hula dancers in 2007, dancing to Andy Cummings "Waikiki" and Kimo Alama Keaulana's "Aloha Week Hula". On my search for more information on this longest hula dancer line, I came across some more beautiful photos on the longest hula line on Waikiki Beach. I love the photos of the keiki hula dancers! Honolulu Starbulletin reports about this exciting event or read more on GoHawaii visitors site.

Maybe Jennifer can tell us whether the attempted record was successful and our Hawaii longest hula dancer line is back in the Guinness Book of Records? Stay in touch with Best Hawaii Vacation Blog to hear Jennifer's answer. Mahalo and aloha, Pua Hawaii Vacations Hula Festival

Have to share this with our Hawaii blog visitors - my favorite hula halau group is Sonny Ching hula halau! Do you have a certain hula halau in Hawaii you love best?
