4th of July 2008 on Hawaii Big Island

This Best Hawaii Vacation blog post is for all the lucky ones who spend 4th of July on vacation in Hawaii. Be assured that all the Hawaii hotels and resorts bring on some special celebration dinners, hula shows and the not to be missed fireworks. What I like best best with the 4th of July fireworks is that there is not such a long wait till midnight like at New Years. This also accommodates the families with kids in Hawaii. The entire family can watch the fireworks at 8:30pm. Make sure to get your dinner reservation for 4th of July dinner. The hotels will be packed for dinners and 4th of July fireworks.

4th of July Fireworks in Hawaii, Big Island, Waikoloa Beach Resort
Wherever you are on Hawaii the Big Island, the island puts on a big 4th of July extravaganza, even at remote Volcano Village, near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. There won't be any any fireworks but a parade with Hawaii County Band, floats, horses and animals in costumes! Music, games, food booths and a craft fair will follow. So, when you happen to be visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the parade will start at 9am in Volcano Village. On your drive back home to the Kohala Coast hotels through Hilo town, you can choose from three 4th of July firework locations starting at 8:30pm: On and along the Bayfront Highway and beach area; the soccer fields along Kamehameha Avenue and Queen Liliuokalani Park.

One of my favorite events on 4th of July on Hawaii's Big Island is 'Turtle Independence Day' at Mauna Lani Beach Hotel & Bungalows. If you vacation with kids on the Kona or Kohala Coast, you don't want to miss this big day when three and four year old turtles are released in the ocean after growing up in the Mauna Lani ponds! Whether it's little turtles or big ones, I don't know what it is with our fascination with turtles. It's not just the kids who get attracted. We do so too. Also read our Tips for watching Green Sea turtles!

Fun for the entire family is programmed at Waikoloa Beach Resort with free entertainment all day long for 4th of July, from 10 am to 8:30 pm. The highlights will be the Waikoloa Rubber Duckie Race and of course, fireworks and laser light show at 8:30 pm. You can get forms for "Duckie adoption" at all Kings' Shops merchants. Best part of this 4th of July event - the benefits will go to United Cerebral Palsy Association. of Hawaii!

The new Shopping Center at Mauna Lani Beach Resort 'The Shops at Mauna Lani' offers some great entertainment for their 4th of July celebration, in addition to their free breathtaking Hawaiian shows Mon, Wed, Thur + Fri at 7pm and 8pm! Enjoy enjoy free pupus on Thursday, July 3rd, from 6:00-8:00 pm and listen to the Bill Noble Jazz Band from 6:30-8:30pm. Celebrate the 4th with free balloon animals and continue the fun on the 5th with free face painting from 1:00-3:00 pm. There will be free giveaways every day, including hats, pens and coolers. In addition to all those fun activities, there are lots of prizes to win. Stop at the Shops at Mauna Lani for 4th of July. Maybe you will be the winner of the $500 shopping Spree!

Let's not forget to mention the 4th of July Independence Parade in Kailua-Kona starting at 5:30pm. Kona will highlight their 4th of July celebration with fireworks at Old Kona Airport Park. Fourth of July fireworks will start at 8:30 p.m. at Old Airport State Park. The Park will close at 6 p.m. You can watch the fireworks from Kailua-Kona after the parade, or watch from Makalapua Center (Macy's, movie theaters, KMart).

For those who want to see some more action, the Annual Parker Ranch 4th of July Rodeo is celebrating the Year of the Paniolo. There will be action-packed rodeo events, keiki (children) activities and ono (delicious) food. Parker Ranch paniolo (Hawaiian cowboys) are joined by other Big Island paniolo for a corral of traditional rodeo events from 9:00 a.m. until noon at Parker Ranch Arena, Waimea.

Enjoy your special 4th of July celebration in Hawaii. There will be many friends on the Mainland who envy you for it. Let us know on what Hawaiian island you spent your 4th of July and what you did. Mahalo and aloha, Pua Hawaii Vacations

Easter Vacation in Hawaii - Happy Easter!

Happy Easter
to all our Hawaii blog visitors, the ones on the Mainland, still dreaming of their Hawaii vacation, and the lucky ones who are enjoying their Maitai on a warm white sand beach on the Hawaiian Islands right now! Easter is the next big holiday in Hawaii after Christmas and New Year's, when Hawaii hotels are having 100% occupancy. Having an Easter vacation in Hawaii means you belong to the privileged folks who were able to get away for a week from the cold or rainy weather on the Mainland. As we all know, spring has not delivered the warm sunny weather everywhere yet.

It's my Easter Vacation in Hawaii
When you are staying at one of our our big Hawaii beach resorts, you will be offered an excellent Easter brunch at a restaurant location where you can overlook the ocean. In most cases a group of Hawaiian musicians is playing some lovely soothing Hawaiian tunes to entertain you. You might be even lucky to have a hula dancer for your Easter brunch. If not, you will be able to watch the lovely hula dancer at sunset when you are enjoying a tropical drink and some Hawaiian appetizers. Who can resist the charm of the Hawaiian music and hula dancer? This is your Hawaii Easter vacation at its best!

If you brought your kids, get ready for the Sunday morning Easter Egg hunt at your hotel. You'd better line up early. If you have little ones, make sure that they manage to find something. Hotels have now learned that they need to allow the little kids to be in the front for the Easter egg hunt. Otherwise, they can't compete against the 12-year olds. Well, if against all odds, your kid is not lucky, best to have some Easter eggs or bunnies with you to prevent tears. After all, everybody is supposed to have fun at Easter in Hawaii.

Here is my last recommendation for those who did not make it to Hawaii for Easter and wonder when is the best time to visit Hawaii and the cheapest. Believe me it's NOW! April guarantees you the cheapest vacation in Hawaii, with cheap Hawaii air fares, car rentals and Hawaii hotel rooms or vacation rentals. Why is April the cheapest month for Hawaii vacation? Who knows for sure! My personal explanation from many years of running our own Kohala Coast vacation rentals: April is tax month!

Well, it's not any different this year April 2008. There are high quality Kohala Coast vacation rentals at premier location on the Kona and Kohala Coast available at low season rates from the owners. If you did not join the 'Win a Free Hawaii Vacation' lottery, here is a better chance to save money on you Hawaii vacation. Stay tuned for our next Hawaii blog post. We will show you Hawaii vacation rentals, which offer a special rate for April 2008. Happy Easter!

Christmas Vacation In Hawaii

Hooray it's Monday and time to post the 'Hawaii photo of the Week' on our Best Hawaii vacation blog. Our bonus photo post with the 'Maui golf photo' last Friday found the immediate attention by the search engines and by Hawaii visitors who come to the islands more or less for golfing our world-championship golf courses. Are you ready for more? Let's get into the Christmas mood!

Christmas Vacation in HawaiiCan you imagine it's just one week till Christmas. No way that we'd miss Hawaii Christmas in our 'Hawaii photo of the week'. For all those, who have never been to Hawaii for Christmas, get prepared that this will be the most special Christmas you've ever had. Hawaii photographer Jennifer Crites found some typical Hawaii Christmas photos in her huge files of Hawaii stock photos.

We decided Christmas vacation in Hawaii is so special and deserves more than one photo. The above photo shows Santa with a big crowd of Keikis (Hawaiian for children) with Christmas leis and hula outfits. In the next photo the keikis gather around Santa, who has just arrived by canoe. It's a big spectacle on all the Hawaiian islands when Santa arrives by canoe. Remember there are not too many chimneys in Hawaii. You will find plenty warm weather in Hawaii for your Christmas vacation (the rain spell from beginning of December is over).
Santa Claus arriving in HawaiiNow, we are back on schedule, stay curious for our next Monday Hawaii photo of the week. It will be a photo of one of those special places on earth, which make you hold your breath because of its rare beauty. Your memory (or camera) will store it for times to come. Maybe we should do a guessing contest - well, you won't guess. Just come back to Best Hawaii Vacation Blog. We'd love to see you here!

3 Best Hawaii Vacation Tips for Thanksgiving in Hawaii

With Mainland temperatures dropping a degree or two daily and the fall weather changing from sunny, golden fall to rainy, gray November weather, sunny, warm Hawaii becomes once again the number one travel destination of places to visit in winter for Mainland residents.

As we told you in our recent post about the Best weather for Hawaii vacation, Hawaii weather proves to be nice and warm also during the winter months. Who wouldn't want to visit the Hawaiian Islands for Thanksgiving week or Christmas Holidays?! Here are our Hawaii vacation tips tourists should know when planning to visit Hawaii for a Thanksgiving or Christmas vacation.

It's a matter of fact that the Hawaii holiday crowd at the big ocean front resorts consists mainly of the well-to-do families, who can afford to meet in Hawaii for their annual family reunion. Hawaii tourism at 5-star hotels relies on these return visitors. Holiday season is the time when the hotels on the Kohala Coast or other prestigious Hawaii Resorts like the Grand Wailea on Maui are booked at 100% occupancy. Well, that said about the Hawaii VIP crwod for the holidays, let's share our tips with the average Hawaii visitor, who has his chances too for a Hawaiian holiday vacation:

1. Expect higher rates for Hawaii vacation rentals during the holidays

Vacation rentals are very high in command for the Hawaii Holiday Season. As rental owners know that, expecthigher rates for the holidays. As vacation rental owners, it has always amazed us how many people asked for Special holiday rates plus waited much too long with making their accommodation reservation. Good news for these guys: there are still a few nice vacation rental places which have availability for Thanksgiving or Christmas at this moment but you don't have the big choices anymore. Next time, make your Thanksgiving or Christmas reservation in summer. Be aware of the 5-night minimum stay of most vacation rentals.

2. Rent your car for your Holiday Vacation as early as possible

Unfortunately, when planning their Hawaii holiday vacation, too many tourists don't take into consideration that Hawaii consists of various islands which have a limited resourced of cars. It happens each year that car rentals on an island get 'maxed' out, meaning car rental companies can ask 'astronomical' rates per day. Guess what, when you have paid for your flight reservation to Hawaii and for your stay, you will be extremely happy to rent a car for $80/day! Rule number two: The earlier you make your car rental reservation, the better your chances for a decent deal.

3. Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner in Hawaii

Since you know by now that spending Thanksgiving or Christmas in Hawaii is really something special and asks for special financial means to do so, let's talk 'Thanksgiving Turkey in Hawaii'. It goes without saying that all the fancy Hawaii Beach Resorts put on their own Thanksgiving Celebration Dinner. As this mostly includes Hawaiian entertainment with hula dancers and Hawaiian music. this turkey definitely doesn not come cheap and might exceed your budget by far.

So why not take advantage of the great Turkey Dinner offers by Hawaiian local markets: turkey for 6 - 8 people, with gravy, cranberry sauce and stuffing and have a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner a la Hawaiian style at the privacy of your Hawaii vacation rental home. Sit outside on your lanai and enjoy your Thanksgiving turkey with your family accompanied by warm, mild Hawaiian air and gentle Hawaiian music from your CD player! This is Thanksgiving in Hawaii! Call your friends on the Mainland and tell them 'I wish you were here!'.

Happy Thanksgiving in HawaiiPlease, share your Hawaii Thanksgiving recommendations with our Best Hawaii Vacation blog visitors. Mahalo for your comments. Aloha, Pua Hawaii Vacations
